Best advice you've ever received

If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you get there? When I first heard this many years ago (from Dana not surprisingly), it just clicked. The discipline of planning is now pretty well reflexive with me in all aspects of my work and life.

Business philosophy

People aren't stupid. They won't be fooled for long by inflated claims or misleading communications. Do what's right and treat people with respect. The rest will follow.

Most fun in consulting

Helping an organization's leaders understand the power of branding, not as something externally applied, but as the promise inherent in their business. Then going through the discipline of reinforcing that brand at every level of the organization: from how they deal with employees to the details of packaging.

Passionate about

Beauty and functionality coming together in great design. In my physical surroundings and the materials I encounter, it's something I appreciate, crave and strive to create.

My empathetic imagination. For clients this means the ability to understand the motivations, expectations and potential for delight in a customer or employee group. This skill functions like an antenna for communications or actions that aren't authentic.

Life philosophy

Live life on purpose. Everyday we make decisions, large and small, that shape the quality of our lives and the lives of those around us. Most anything is possible if we are willing to put the work into it.

Approach to balancing work, family life and personal time

Focus on what's important and get rid of the rest. Ultimately we will remember the moments of joy and connection. I try to find as many of those moments as possible and enjoy them deeply.
